Being 'Giving Tuesday' on November 29th, 2016, a National Giving Day in Canada, it was fitting that the Kells' students spent their day lending a helping hand at Chez Doris, a women's shelter. About twenty members of our Student Council along with Ms. Blain and Ms. Rubenovitch, the coordinators of the council, participated in the Chez Doris outing. Initially, the students were given a tour of the space led by the Executive Director, Marina Boulos-Winton.
After getting a feel for how things were organized at the shelter, the students got to work. The large group was broken up into smaller teams who worked on a variety of assigned jobs. Some students were busy sorting clothes, taking inventory, dividing toiletries, etc..., while others spent time playing cards and making holiday crafts with the women at the shelter. Overall, it was a great opportunity for the students to give back and get to see how much their help is truly appreciated!
