Kells Academy students recently had an opportunity to show off their science and technology skills at the annual Hydro-Québec Montreal Regional Science & Technology Fair, held at Concordia University’s downtown campus from Sunday, March 24th to Tuesday the 26th. This competition sees emerging scientists aged 13 to 20 sharing their passion for science and technology, presenting their original research in creative and accessible ways for science fair visitors.
With technology integrated into all aspects of our curriculum, and flexible science programs that allow students to learn at their own pace, Kells Academy ensures that students have a broad array of scientific and digital skills to apply to any challenges they may encounter. This year, the projects taken on by ambitious Kells students covered a wide variety of topics, from pinhole cameras, to water purification, to defending coastal areas from tidal waves.

Read more …Travelling abroad can offer a range of valuable benefits for high school students, not least of which is the opportunity to develop a global perspective. Travel can also let students try new cuisines, brush up on language skills, and see firsthand some of the important cultural, artistic, and historical works and sites that they have learned about in class.
On March 6th, eighteen Kells Academy students from grades 10 and 11 returned from a whirlwind week-long trip to Barcelona, Spain, where they were able to learn about and experience Spanish culture, take in a range of breathtaking art and architecture, and even pick up some valuable new skills.

For many of these students, English maybe a second or even third language, and in some cases, they may require some additional coaching and instruction before they are ready to tackle an English-language academic curriculum. Fortunately, Kells has robust resources available to support these students and help them achieve the level of fluency they need in order to excel in their English education at Kells Academy and beyond.
Founded in the fall of 2017, the Kells Academy Language Centre is a dedicated language-learning campus, allowing students coming from abroad to focus on improving their English language skills with the help of trained ESL teachers before moving onto the main Kells campus once they’ve developed their fluency.

Read more …At Kells Academy, we believe that our students should have the chance to pursue the subjects and areas that spark their curiosity and personal interests, including STEM fields like mathematics and computing. Every student has their own unique passions, talents, and learning style, and we want to provide them the opportunity to develop their skills, as well as participate in a little healthy competition from time to time.
Each year, the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo designs and administers internationally-recognized Mathematics and Computing Contests to high school students around the world. The CEMC is Canada’s largest outreach organization and seeks to inspire the next generation of young learners across the globe to become more involved and passionate about mathematics and computer science. A select group of Kells students recently participated in the first round of contests and put their minds to the test as they took on the Mathematics and Computing competition.

Read more …As we wait for the last few weeks of winter to pass, the talented students at Kells Academy are already busy at work on 2019’s annual spring concert. Each year, this event brings together hard-working teachers, proud families, and students eager to take to the stage and showcase their musical abilities with singing, dancing, and a variety of instruments. It’s always a great way to get the Kells community together while teaching students the value of collaboration and creativity and giving them an opportunity to develop their performance skills and self-confidence.
With this year’s Beatles theme, it’s sure to be an exciting, fun-filled show for everyone involved, and one that will leave a lasting impression for years to come.
