If you had the chance to teach a child one thing, and only one, what would it be? Would you choose Music? Sports? Math? Science? Reading? It’s lucky that we don’t have to choose, but if we did, Dr. JoAnn Deak knows what she would pick. She has spent more than thirty years as an educator and psychologist and her wealth of knowledge and experience has led her to an answer. If she could only teach a child one thing, she would teach them about their brain.

In today’s world, where climate change, pollution, and environmental challenges are part of everyday headlines, schools have a vital role to play, not just in educating students about these issues, but in equipping them with the skills, values, and passion to be part of the solution.

At Kells Elementary, our commitment to experiential education goes far beyond the traditional classroom. This year, our collaboration with Little Medical School has brought that commitment to life in the most engaging and impactful way possible—by inspiring our youngest learners to see themselves as future doctors, veterinarians, dentists, and scientists.

In October, Kells Elementary students had a wonderful time learning about what it is like to be a doctor with the Little Medical School. They had the chance to work with real medical instruments and engage in educational roleplay. The event was covered by Global News Montreal.
