Najma Ali appointed new Principal at Kells Academy

Kells Academy is pleased to announce the nomination of Najma Ali as Principal of its middle and high schools effective August 1st 2020. Ms. Ali brings nearly twenty years of international teaching, assessment and administrative experience to her new position. She succeeds Neil Banerjee, to whom we express our gratitude for three years of leadership at Kells.

Profile: Najma Ali

Najma Ali knows excellence, and she knows diversity. This Cambridge and McGill-educated administrator and ELL specialist brings broad international experience to her new role as Kells Academy’s high school and middle school Principal. She has taught in a range of environments from high schools, to corporate environments and the private language school industry, developing a special interest in understanding students' learning styles. Ms. Ali has successfully driven Kells’ new language centre initiative for the past three years, and her familiarity with the community and culture at Kells Academy will ensure a smooth transition for staff and students alike.

A strong proponent of the Kells mission that each student receive the best possible individualized learning experience, Ms. Ali believes that education is an ever-evolving field. We look forward to the new ideas she will be developing, sharing and applying as Principal. “My vision for Kells rests on four pillars: creating personalized learning experiences, fostering kindness, compassion and respect, promoting life-long learning and continuing to build pride in Kells locally as well as internationally,” states Ms. Ali.

Ms. Ali has begun to transition towards her new position as Kells Academy middle and high school Principal, providing invaluable support during our community’s move towards an e-learning environment in the wake of the implementation of Covid-19 safety and security measures.

“I am delighted to welcome Ms. Najma Ali as Principal of Kells High School,” states Irene Woods, founder and director of Kells Academy. “Boasting impressive scholastic credentials combined with a wealth of experience in both teaching and administration, Ms. Ali is no stranger to the staff of the Kells community. She is also well known to our international students, many of whom hone their English skills at the Kells Language Center before transitioning to our high school. In our 40 years we have, I believe, offered students a unique educational experience and I have great confidence that Kells will continue to thrive under Ms. Ali’s leadership.”
