Coordinator's Profile

Another Feather in the Kells Roster

Kells’ success can be attributed to the unique pedagogical approach that we have developed over the years in conjunction with our group of dedicated teachers. Rooted in the philosophy that each individual learns differently, our small classes ensure that each child gets the individual attention that they deserve so that they maximize their inborn potential.

In our continuing goal of constantly building on this vision and offering the best to our students, we are very proud to introduce our new Coordinator of the Middle School – Ms. Sandra Furfaro.

The Kells Middle School became a reality in September 2017 when it opened its doors to Grades 7 and 8 in order to provide a seamless and transitional step from Elementary to High School. The sudden switch from a protective and nurturing elementary school to an independent and autonomous High School environment can be daunting for a child. Increased assignments, work-loads and the demands for self-reliance can leave a student feeling insecure and may negatively impact both their academic and social development. Since its opening in the Fall of 2017, this structural set-up has provided the best environment for each student’s academic, social and psychological development.

We are now excited to welcome Ms. Furfaro as the Coordinator of the Middle School where she will be working to introduce new and innovative programs and professional development sessions for both teachers and students.

Ms. Furfaro joins Kells Academy with a wealth of experience. With a stellar career trajectory at both the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal (PSBGM) and the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), she rose from a teacher to become the Director of Educational and Technology Services (including Information Technology Services). Under her leadership the department oversaw the implementation of many new pedagogical initiatives, significant improvements in the areas of literacy education, STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics), robotics, French immersion and physical literacy. Today she is recognized by the larger English educational community of Quebec as a leader who works to ensure quality educational services for all students.

Ms. Furfaro’s philosophy and experience makes her a perfect fit for our Middle School. Education is both a profession and a vocation for her. “The greatest pleasure for me has been seeing the smiling faces of our students, especially when they have been successful.”

We are lucky to have her lead the Middle School Program and wish her continued success at Kells Academy!
